Weaving SOS at 1:30 am

The problem with weaving late at night is you can't call a weaving friend for help. I figured Amy would not appreciate a phone call at 1:30 am. Once again the shuttle fell through the warp and I was under the loom trying to find it when I looked at the underside of the blanket and saw a big mistake. It may be fixable or I may have to fix it when it comes off the loom. This is the problem with a double weave blanket, you can not see what is happening on the bottom layer. For those of my non- weaver friends I'll explain. Double weave is a technique that lets you weave double the width of your loom. There is a fold on one side and that is the center of the blanket. A basic plain weave fabric is over an under every thread. In the case of double weave you have an upper layer and a bottom layer. When you weave the bottom layer you are also moving the upper layer out of the way. As a result you can't really see what is going on in the bottom layer. Of course that is where my problem is.

This is the blanket that Sarah was supposed to take to college so as you see its a little late. I spun all the yarns over the years, some I dyed some were dyed by others, some are from our sheep so it will be full of memories. I also weave it with intention, and by that I mean I think of empowering words that will help her throughout her life while I work on it. I also like to play positive music so that everything that surrounds the blanket is helpful and hopeful.

Oh my friend Amy came over after work to help and it was an easy fix. I had threaded one of the heddles incorrectly but was able to fix it by cutting the thread and tying on a replacement. Happy dance..... It sure helped that Amy just finished a blanket that she had thrown silk threads in the warp. They constantly broke so she had plenty of experience repairing things in that bottom layer. Weaving buddies that come over to help out are the best. Thanks Amy.

My phone died last night. I took it to Verizon and they guy said it was fried so I waited till Dave got home and we went back. We tried to see if a new battery would fix it. They came to the conclusion that it would, so Dave & switched batteries to see if the phone would work with his battery. It seemed to but now I still think there is a problem. It keeps shutting off on me. I will try and recharge it tonight but I have a feeling I will be looking at new phones tomorrow.

Quote of the Day: Treat yourself as if you already are what you'd like to become.

Peace Kai.

I had a similar problem with my phone once. The guy at the repair shop cleaned the battery contacts, with a paper towel and that did the trick. They get clogged up with stuff so the battery does not work. Give it a try.

I think knowing how to weave is really wonderful, I've always been fascinated looking at all that yarn and the work it takes to make it all become a blanket...or a rug....or whatever. I am anxious to see the final product.
Your weaver friend sounds quite special!
